Gaveika, Laura

Candidate Profile

Connecting generations and cultures, I’m determined to support the WBOP’s future, encouraging best practice governance that benefits the whole community.

Highly empathetic, ethical, and strongly valuing whānaungatanga, kotahitanga, aroha and kaitiakitanga, I hold a qualification in Māori governance with a dedicated commitment to comprehending Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Alongside this I bring a distinctive perspective as a young mother, currently studying Psychology with Indigenous Studies. I am passionate about our collective impact.

As a current ‘Future Director’ on the TECT board, I’m gaining valuable insights into the board’s responsibilities and recognising how I may utilise my diverse skillset to assist our growing community. I have 7 years previous governance experience within other commercial and not-for-profit governance roles.

Born into Generation X, I blend Boomer experience with Millennial innovation, believing that combining Western governance practices with Māori values will position Aotearoa New Zealand as a leader in governance, benefiting all.
