Tell us your name and your connection to the Western Bay of Plenty?
My name is Mark Irving and I reside in Omokoroa with my New Zealand born wife Debbie. In 2017 I accepted a senior economic development position with Priority One. I embraced this role passionately and forged over time a dependable reputation amongst our wider community as a visionary, committed worker and the ability to deliver successful outcomes.
Why are you standing for TECT?
I’m standing for trustee because I strongly believe in what TECT strives for, I resonate with its proven operational systems, and I wish to contribute to our community in an impactful way. As an elected trustee I will support deserved initiatives, bringing funding stability through quality governance to a diverse range of projects and along with the TECT team provide the stimulus to deliver large-scale community projects.
What do you see as the greatest opportunity for TECT in the next four years?
The world is rapidly changing, with organisations more than ever seeking support to develop their projects on many levels. TECT has an enormous opportunity to embrace this real need, increasing its support towards worthy initiatives through the fair and equitable distribution of its prudently invested funds. TECT should always keep evolving and have a visionary approach, identifying new programmes and initiatives for our community.
Why do you think you're right for the role?
Being active amongst the business, sporting, and arts communities keeps me in sync with the diverse needs and opportunities amongst our wider community. I have a strong track record of managing large companies, corporate teams and possess solid governance and leadership skills. I am a team player, understand equality and have earned wide respect for my unique ability to achieve positive and noteworthy outcomes.

A 38-year international career as entrepreneur, civil engineer, property developer, managing director, board member and trustee across many business sectors, trusts, and organisations continues to thrive.
As the General Manager of Business Partnerships for Priority One (2017-2022) I was afforded a unique view of our business, community, sporting, social, government and educational sectors in conjunction with tangata whenua working in harmony. Witnessing the crucial and unparalleled role that TECT performs within this space, I developed a respect for the impactful work accomplished and I am passionate about its continuity.
My ability to network, listen and work collaboratively within a team adds strength to my suitability as a TECT trustee.
